The most basic definition of prayer is “talking to God.” Prayer is not meditation or passive reflection; it is direct address to God. It is the communication of the human soul with the Lord who created the soul. Prayer is the primary way for the believer in Jesus Christ to communicate his emotions and desires with God and to fellowship with God.
Bible study is the practice of examining God's Word in order to understand it and be changed by it. Christians do this because they trust what God himself says about his Word, including: God spoke it, so all of it is profitable (2 Tim 3:16 ; 2 Pet 1:21 )
The five-fold ministry is found in Ephesians 4:11, and it refers to the five roles that God has called Christians to fill. These roles are (1) apostles, (2) prophets, (3) evangelists, (4) pastors, and (5) teachers.
What Is the Church?
So, what is the church, really? Let’s start with what it’s not. A church is not just a building.
Yes, Central has a beautiful, historic building—a testament to the devotion of generations in our congregation. But Central is far more than a building.
Central is a community of believers. As the Bible says, “Where two or more are gathered in the name of Jesus, there we have a church.”
Many think that church must happen in a building with a steeple. But church can happen anywhere:
. On a beach
. At a kitchen table or in a family room
. In a park or a coffee shop
. Over the telephone or online
Church is two or more people coming together in the name of Christ to show love—for each other, for their communities, for friends, neighbors, and even enemies.
